Hierarchical Treeview with ASP.NET MVC & jQuery First of all, an apology for being so quiet over the past few weeks.  I've been putting my blogging aside for a while to chase some pet projects I'm working on.  More on that later. I did, however, run into a particular situation that I thought would be of interest to anyone adopting ASP.NET MVC and looking for some goodies from jQuery.  Many of you have no doubt started testing the waters with jQuery since it was announced that Microsoft will be ship... WorkGrabber.com - Sweet ASP.NET MVC 1.0 + jQuery Application You may have noticed this blog has been awfully quiet in the past couple of months.  That's because I've been working on a neat side project with a couple of other developers.  Today, we'd like to submit our project to the ASP.NET community to get some feedback. The site is called WorkGrabber.com.  You can check it out here:  http://workgrabber.com What we're trying to create with WorkGrabber is something like the eBay of local service cont... (more)

MVC is the answer to all I always hated about WebForms. Well, maybe not, but it's a new take on web applications, making things like Ajax, jQuery, routing, SEO, html soooo much easier. I started using MVC 2 Preview 1 and found its support for Areas really useful (more info). I also wanted to use the "futures" RenderAction method, so I can easily piece... (more)

Serialization In ASP.NET MVC

I’ve been doing a lot more with jQuery in ASP.NET MVC than I ever have before. One of the biggest problems I’ve had is in the sending back of JSON to jQuery ajax calls, it seems that the built in MVC action result is not to friendly with dates and/or forms submitted with uploaded files, so with some help of an article @ http://msmvps.com/blogs/omar/archive/2008/10/03/create-rest-api-using-asp-net-mvc-that-speaks-both-json-and-plain-xml.aspx I’ve come up with my own SerializeResult (more)

Playing with JQuery Validation library | Elegant Code

New job (2 weeks in), new responsibilities, new tools to play with. Amazingly (for me), one of the new tools is the JQuery Validation Library. My diving into this also coincides with ScottGu’s announcement that Microsoft is creating their own CDN for JQuery and JQuery Validation. Bad news is that this means I’m behind. That sucks. I was using JQuery MONTHS before Microsoft officially started supporting it (at least 6 months – but I’m too lazy to look it up). Anyway, now you can use Microsoft’s ba.. (more)

From MySQL to jQuery, via PHP, XML & Ajax

posted by HostMonsterHostMonster 307 days, 5 hours, 52 minutes ago
Saturday, September 26, 2009 4:30:23 AM GMT
Back in the early part of this year I posted an article around how to get MySQL data out of the database and into a web page via jQuery and Ajax. The tutorial was okay, but I made some rookie mistakes – specifically around the creation of XML data with PHP – This time, I hope to rectify that! So this article will focus on getting data from a database using PHP, converting that to an XML document, and reading that XML in through jQuery via Ajax calls. Seems complex, but is in fact, very easy.Database Des... (more)
